Description
The building is a former icehouse that has been converted into a creamery, dating from the 18th century and altered in the mid-19th century. It is constructed of red brick and features a circular plan with a domed structure beneath an earth mound. The 18th-century brick retaining wall has a moulded plinth on the west side, which faces the site of Uffington House. There are single opposed entrances and windows set between raking stone coped brick retaining walls on three sides. Towards the house, there is a doorway with a segmental head and later buttresses to the retaining wall. The entrance door is planked with a flat stone lintel, leading down three steps to the domed interior. Inside, the circular room has a continuous stone shelf at working height and a narrower stone shelf at a higher level. There are two courses of decorative 19th-century salt glazed blue and white wall tiles. In the center of the room is an ornate stone basin on a cylindrical pier with a turned base. This building served as both the ice house and creamery for Uffington House.
