Description
Uffington House Restaurant is a former house that dates back to 1674 and was altered and extended in 1868. The building is constructed from squared coursed limestone rubble with ashlar quoins and dressings, and features ashlar elements. It has Collyweston slate roofs with stone coped gables, a single gable ridge, and wall stacks made of ashlar. The structure is a single storey plus attics, showcasing a 5 bay 17th century range, with a 2 storey, 2 bay 19th century addition to the right at right angles.
The entrance features half glazed doors flanked by pairs of plain casements, all with chamfered surrounds and mullions. Above the door, there is a square ashlar plaque displaying the dates 1674 and 1868 along with the initials "Bertie." The roof includes three gabled dormers with 2 light casements and slate hung cheeks. The right side of the 19th century range has a moulded string course, with two cross mullioned windows on the ground floor and a single 3 light window on the upper floor, all of which are chamfered. Inside, the building retains its chamfered girders, and the hall features a late 18th century Carrera moulded fire surround adorned with flutes, swag, and paterae.
