Description
The gates, piers, and walls to the churchyard in Uffington date from the late 17th century and are made of ashlar and wrought iron. The structure features a pair of wrought iron gates with side screens, which are decorated with scrolled lyre shapes and central circles surrounded by scrollwork. The overthrow of the gates includes knopped curlicues, with the central one displaying the wildman Bertie badge. The gates are flanked by square rusticated piers that have moulded bases and capitals, and the front of these piers is adorned with fluted panels. Each pier supports a swagged ashlar urn topped with a human head knop. On either side of the gates, there are ramped ashlar walls with chamfered plinths and ashlar copings, along with scrolled supports beside the gates.
