Description

The Old School and School House in Uffington was built in 1848 and serves as both a school and a residence. It is constructed from coursed and squared limestone rubble, featuring ashlar quoins and dressings. The roofs are made of Collyweston slate, with raised stone coped gables and moulded kneelers. The building has a T-plan layout and is one and a half storeys tall, with a three-bay front that includes a dentillated stone cornice. The left bay is slightly advanced and has its own gable.

The central entrance features a planked and ribbed door set within a moulded flat Tudor stone surround topped with a cornice. To the right of the door is a three-light mullioned window, while to the left is a rectangular four-light bay window with a hipped Collyweston slate roof. Above the door, there is an ashlar panel depicting a figure of Bertie Wildman and a ducal coronet, along with the inscription: "This house and schoolroom the property of George Augustus Frederick; Earl of Lindsey, built 1848." The façade is flanked by two-light windows, with the left window being through the eaves and gabled. All windows feature ovolo moulded mullions and casements. At the rear, there is a single-storey schoolroom range with three bays, which includes three three-light timber mullioned and transomed windows.
