Description

A pair of estate cottages dating from around 1840. The cottages are constructed from coursed and banded limestone rubble with ashlar quoins and dressings, and have a Collyweston slate roof with kneelers and decorated verges. They have single ridge and wall stacks with moulded ashlar cornices. The buildings are arranged in a T-shaped plan, with a three-bay front; the left-hand bays are gabled, and the most left-hand bay is slightly forward. An off-centre planked door, with Gothic ironmongery, is sheltered by a steeply gabled Collyweston slate porch, featuring pierced bargeboards with wooden brackets and full-height side walls containing narrow windows. To the left of the entrance are a three-light and a single-light window, and above are a pair of two-light windows. All windows have chamfered surrounds and mullions. A square terracotta plaque, with a chamfered surround, displaying the Bertie crest is set into the left-hand gable. A further steeply gabled porch is on the left-hand side.
