Description
The icehouse at Dundas Castle, dating from the 19th century, is constructed of brick with dressed droved sandstone details. It is set within an earth mound and features a symmetrical single-storey entrance elevation with three bays. The central bay contains a door, while the flanking bays have windows, and there are small square vents on either side at ground level. Above, the wallhead is stone-coped and tapers down to the ground at both the left and right sides. Inside, there is a central domed chamber with a stone oculus at the top. Curving passages flank the chamber, featuring a stone-flagged floor, regularly spaced stone-shelved niches, and a vaulted brick ceiling.
