Description
Dundas Castle features an 18th century circular-plan dovecot. It is constructed from coursed rubble basalt, with polished and droved sandstone ashlar dressings. The building has long and short surrounds to its openings and an eaves course. There is a doorway on the west side, which includes a relieving arch and a smaller inner door. The upper section has five windows, some of which are open while others are blocked. The dovecot is topped with a conical slate roof, which is surmounted by a timber drum that is slate-hung and has lead roofing, featuring round-arched flight holes.
Inside, the dovecot contains 664 stone nesting boxes and the remains of a timber potence. The roof is open timber, with a central drum lantern that also contains flight-holes.
