Description
The building is an 18th-century, three-stage circular dovecot located at Rockville Farm. It features random rubble construction that has been repaired with brick and includes ashlar dressings. The dovecot was formerly harled and has a slate rat course above the ground stage, with the second stage tapering.
At the ground level, there is a round-arched doorway, and a later round-arched opening has been inserted above this door, surrounded by render. There is an original round-arched opening on the opposite side of the second stage, which has an ashlar surround. The parapet stage is corbelled out and has a crenellated appearance due to square flight holes, which are currently blocked. The roof is a shallow slate cone topped with a simple weathervane. There is also a narrow slit at the ground level on the side, which is currently blocked.
At the rear, the dovecot is adjacent to a boundary wall of the steading. Inside, the ground floor chamber is brick-vaulted and has stone flagging, while the upper chamber is brick-lined and contains some nesting boxes.
