Description
Fenton Tower in Kingston is a 16th-century L-plan tower house, built around 1575. It is constructed from random red rubble with cream, squared dressings. The openings feature rounded arrises and have relieving arches above them. The building has three storeys and originally contained stone vaulted rooms, of which some evidence still remains. The entrance doorway is located in the re-entrant angle of the southwest tower and the main range, leading to a stone spiral stair. The round tower is positioned to the left of the north elevation and also contains a spiral stair that leads to the first floor. There are small corbelled turrets tucked into the re-entrant angles, one of which formerly provided access to the second floor. The elevations are plain with irregular, asymmetrical openings, and the hall is situated on the first floor to the north.
