Description
Highfield is a farmhouse built in the earlier to mid 19th century, with later additions. It has a two-storey rectangular plan and features classical detailing. The exterior is made of squared and coursed Rattlebag stone, with ashlar dressings, a raised base, band courses, and rusticated quoins on the south side. The main house has a moulded eaves cornice.
On the south elevation, the main front is symmetrical with three bays. There is an advanced porch at the center, which has rusticated quoins, an architraved and corniced door, and narrow lights on either side. To the right, there is a recessed addition with altered openings at the ground level.
The north elevation includes a full-height canted bay that has been added to the outer right of the original house. The west elevation has two bays, with tripartite windows on the left bay at both floors and single lights on the right bay. There is also a single-storey piend-roofed addition on the east side.
The windows predominantly feature 12-pane glazing, with some 4-pane and plate glass in the sash and case windows. The ashlar end stacks have moulded coping and retain their original cans. The roofs are slated and piended.
Inside, much of the original interior detail has been preserved.
