Description
The dovecote at Garthewin is a square structure with two-and-a-half stages, built from rubble wall construction, with some original lime render still visible. It has a brick interior skin and is currently roofless. There are brick stringcourses separating the stages, with the upper stringcourse featuring offset dentilations between two header courses, while the lower one is plain. The gabled sides are capped with sandstone slabs and have rounded sandstone kneelers.
The entrance is located on the east side and includes a plain oak pegged frame and a timber lintel. Above the entrance is an oculus made of brick voussoirs, along with an open square window in the gable storey, which has a similar pegged frame. This design is repeated on the other sides of the dovecote.
Inside, there are brick nesting boxes, with 125 on each face, each featuring a ledge in front. The dado is plastered, and the brick interior was previously limewashed.
