Description

Sheriff Hall is a two-storey gabled farmhouse built in the later 19th century. The structure features a first floor that breaks the eaves and is constructed from squared, snecked, and stugged rubble sandstone, accented with ashlar dressings. The main openings have chamfered arrises, and stone mullions are present throughout.

On the south elevation, which serves as the entrance, there are three bays. A gabled porch is located at the center within a re-entrant angle. To the right, an advanced gabled outer bay has a canted four-light window at the ground level and a fish-scale slate roof, with a bipartite window at the first floor. To the left, a recessed bay features a canted bay at the ground level, detailed similarly, and a first-floor bipartite window breaking the eaves in a gabled dormer.

The west elevation has two bays, with an advanced gabled bay to the right that includes a tripartite window at the ground level and a bipartite window at the first floor. The east elevation also has two bays, featuring a raised, battered stack off-centre to the left, with single lights in the right bay and a first-floor gabled dormer. There is a single-storey outbuilding with a piend roof projecting from the outer right.

On the north elevation, there are three bays. The outer right gable is recessed and has a single-storey gabled projection at the ground level. The centre and right bays are advanced, with a narrow gable over the centre bay. There is also a pentice roofed outbuilding, and an earlier wall is absorbed at the ground level adjoining this elevation.

The sash and case windows have a rectangular-plan glazing pattern, with some featuring plate glass. The porch gable is adorned with barge boarding and moulded brackets, along with a tie beam and pendant. The polygonal stacks have moulded coping and are arranged in pairs, with one group of four and one single stack, all resting on ashlar bases. The roofs are covered with grey slate.
