Description

The ice house, located in Ice House Wood, dates from the late 18th century. It is constructed of brick with ashlar dressings. The entrance features an ashlar arch, which is partly collapsed, leading into an entrance passage that is also walled with ashlar and has a brick barrel vault. The main chamber is circular and descends 3 metres below the entrance level, with brick-lined walls that rise to a dome. This ice house was built for the storage of ice for Scriven Hall, which was demolished in 1954.
