Description
The Scriven War Memorial is a memorial dedicated to the First and Second World Wars, built in 1953. It is constructed from limestone ashlar and features a stone slate roof.
The exterior consists of a small shelter with a gabled roof, facing the road to the west. The front has a central round-arched entrance, flanked by small unglazed slit windows. The entrance is framed by a rusticated surround with projecting reticulated quoins and voussoirs, and it is closed off by simple iron-railing gates. Above the entrance, there is a stone plaque inscribed with "E II R." To the right of the entrance, a glazed timber cabinet is mounted on the wall for notices. The side elevations have rectangular unglazed openings secured with simple iron bars, while the rear wall is blind.
Inside, a simple stone plaque on the rear wall lists the names of those commemorated: "IN MEMORANDUM / 1914-1918 / MIDSHIPMAN JOHN SLINGSBY, RN / PRIVATE PERCY FRYER / PRIVATE HARRY SMITH / 1939 – 1945 / GUARDSMAN ARTHUR BRADLEY / PRIVATE THOMAS COOPER."
