Description

Corner Cottage, now divided into two houses, dates from the 17th century and has earlier remains, with a restoration in the 20th century. The building features small red and brown bricks laid in Flemish bond, topped with 20th-century pantile roofs and stone eaves courses. Corner Cottage is a two-storey, three-bay structure with a two-storey, three-bay rear range known as Village Terrace, which has a two-room lobby-entry plan.

The front of Corner Cottage includes a central 20th-century porch and small-paned windows without sills or lintels, with three lights on the left and two on the right; the first-floor windows are positioned just below the eaves line. There are end brick stacks, with the left stack being the earliest. The rear of the building shows a wallplate visible beneath dentilled eaves. While the interior was not inspected during the resurvey, it is reported to contain remains of a timber-framed cross wall, including a tie beam and wallplate.

Village Terrace features a six-panel door to the left of the center and a small-paned window in a blocked doorway on the far left, with 20th-century window frames throughout. It also has a dentilled eaves cornice and a large brick ridge stack to the right of center. The rear wall is made of stone rubble. Inside, the door leads to the side of back-to-back fireplaces with timber lintels, and a timber-framed stud partition wall is visible at the first-floor level. This house was likely the main hall range of a hall and cross wing plan, with the cross wing being Corner Cottage. An attached former smithy building to the left of Corner Cottage is in common ownership with Nos 1 and 2 Village Terrace but is not of special interest.
