Description

Park Corner is a farmhouse dating back to the 16th century, with significant additions from the 18th and 19th centuries and alterations in the 20th century. It is constructed from coursed squared and rubble gritstone, with a pantile roof and sections of 20th-century concrete tile roofing. The house appears to have been built in two phases. Originally, it comprised three bays, with the two right-hand bays featuring a steep roof and attic rooms. The left-hand bay has since been rebuilt to two full storeys. The left bay is constructed of coursed squared stone and includes a board door with an overlight to the right, and a 20-pane sash window to the left, set within a flush architrave with a projecting sill. A pantile roof covers this section. The two bays on the right are built of rubble stone and contain three small-pane windows on the ground floor. Two dormers are located above, and the roof is covered in concrete tiles. End stacks are positioned to the left and between bays two and three. While the interior was not inspected during a recent survey, it is reported to contain remnants of a timber-framed building, including end posts, tie beams, and smoke-blackened rafters in bays two and three. The North Yorkshire and Cleveland Vernacular Buildings Study Group documented the property in “The Houses of Scriven Green” in 1979.
