Description

Derwent Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the early 18th century, with earlier fragments and 20th-century additions. It is constructed of coursed rubble gritstone, featuring quoins at the northeast end, and has a coped gable on the 20th-century advanced bay at the southwest end. The building has intermediate ashlar ridge stacks and a stone slated roof.

The farmhouse is two storeys high and consists of six bays, with the four central bays being the earlier section. These bays have 2-light recessed mullion windows that are slightly chamfered, although some stone frames have been renewed in the 20th century. The windows include leaded lights and glazing bar casements, all from the 20th century, with one 2-light opening featuring sash frames and another with undivided casement frames. The advanced gable and the ground floor of the adjoining bay have 20th-century 4-light flush mullioned windows.

There are two doorways: one is early 19th century, featuring a shallow bracketed flat hood that has been partially renewed, leading to a 20th-century planked door. The other doorway is located within the remodelled northeast end bay, which has a first floor that jetties on stone corbels and a gablet above a 2-light first floor window. This plain doorway also has a planked door. The rear elevation includes a recessed chamfered mullioned window beneath a drip mould.
