Description

Wheelwright Cottage is a house dating from the early to mid-18th century, with extensions and alterations made in the 19th century. It is constructed of coursed gritstone and sandstone rubble, with a pantile roof featuring three courses of stone eaves. The house has two storeys and two bays, with quoins marking the corners. The central entrance has a six-panel door, with the top two panels glazed. Flanking the door are ground-floor windows with sixteen panes in sash windows, set in flush wood architraves and stone sills. The first floor has side-sliding sash windows with glazing bars under the eaves. The stonework between the ground and first floor windows has been repaired or repointed. A large brick ridge stack is located to the right of centre. The right return has a side-sliding sash window on the ground floor, and the rear outshut roofline has been raised to two storeys with a gable stack. The interior has not been inspected.
