Description
Nos. 55 and 57 on Main Street are a pair of cottages dating from the late 17th century, with extensions and alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. Originally constructed with a timber frame, they are now built with coursed limestone rubble and partly rendered. The cottages feature a pantile roof adorned with decorative ridge tiles, two brick ridge stacks, and a single ashlar gable stack.
The building is single storey with attics and has an irregular six-bay front. The entrance is an off-centre half-glazed door from the 20th century, flanked on the left by two and on the right by a single two-light glazing bar casement window. To the right, there are a pair of semi-circular headed three-light windows, and above these are two semi-circular headed leaded dormers set into the roof. At the right end of the building, a timber bay post rests on a stone base, and the positions of five other bay posts are visible in the stone walling.
