Description

Nos. 41 and 43 on Main Street is a house and post office dating from the 17th century, with alterations made in the late 18th century, mid 19th century, and a rebuilding in the 20th century. The building is constructed from coursed limestone rubble, featuring ashlar quoins and dressings, and has a plain tiled roof with bargeboards, as well as a single ridge and gable brick stacks. It is designed in an L-plan and has two storeys with a four-bay front. The entrance is off-centre, featuring a six-panelled door with a plain fanlight, an open stone porch supported by Doric pilasters and columns, and a stone cornice with a segmental canopy over the fanlight. Flanking the entrance are two-storey canted bay windows with glazing bar sashes. Above the door is a semi-circular headed glazing bar sash, and to the right, there is another door with a glazing bar sash on the first floor. To the left, there is a single-storey, single-bay pent-roofed store with quoins and a planked doorway. The rear wing has been raised from a single storey to two storeys. The front of the building suffered significant fire damage in 1914 and was subsequently reconstructed.
