Description
Nos. 96 and 98 on Corn Street is a house that has been converted into two shops and a dwelling. It dates from the late 17th century to early 18th century. The building is made of coursed limestone rubble and features a gabled concrete tile roof, with stone and brick stacks at the ends. It has an L-plan layout with a rear left wing and stands two storeys tall with an attic, displaying a five-window range. There is a timber lintel above the central 20th-century door, and timber lintels over the 20th-century windows and a blocked window on the first floor. The building has two gabled roof dormers that contain 20th-century casements. At the rear, there is a 20th-century flat-roofed extension and an early 18th-century wing to the left, which is made of limestone rubble and has a 19th-century tile roof. The right wing has been remodelled in the 19th century. Inside, there are stop-chamfered beams and a four-bay collar-truss roof with butt purlins. The building is included for its group value.
