Description
Nos. 4 and 5 on Hinton Hill are a pair of cottages that were originally a single house, dating from the 17th and 18th centuries. The cottages are constructed with a timber frame and brick infill, and the front is encased in brick with an addition of flint and brick. The roof is thatched. The structure consists of a three-bay 17th-century house with an 18th-century bay added to the right. The building faces the road and has four bays, with one and a half storeys. It features 19th-century planked doors located between the inner and outer bays, sheltered by an open timber gabled porch with tiled roofing. The windows are 20th-century, with a three-light steel window and a four-light steel window to the right of the centre, all set in timber frames with cambered heads. Above, there are four regular eyebrow dormers, each with three-light steel windows. The roof is half-hipped and has a decorated ridge piece, with a large ridge stack in the centre and smaller stacks at either end of the 17th-century section.
