Description
Frieston House is a house dating from the 17th century, with alterations and additions from the 18th and 19th centuries. It is constructed of coursed limestone rubble with ashlar dressings, featuring stone coped gables and moulded gable stacks, topped with a slate roof. The main block consists of parallel ranges.
The south, or garden front, has a main block that rises 2½ storeys and is divided into three bays. To the left is part of the original house, now reduced to one bay and two storeys, which includes a moulded gable stack. The main block features an off-centre glazed panelled door from the 19th century, with a single 20th-century glazing bar fixed light window to the left. To the right, there is a 19th-century three-light glazing bar sash canted bay window with a hipped slate roof.
On the first floor of the main block, there are three single glazing bar sash windows, with the centre window lowered to illuminate the staircase. Above these, three smaller glazing bar sashes are present, with the central window being vertical and the others horizontal. All original windows in the main block have flat lintels with emphasised keystones.
The left-hand range features single three-light cavetto mullioned windows on each floor, complete with moulded surrounds and cornices. The north front showcases a modillioned wood cornice and a six-panelled door with panelled reveals, reeded pilaster strips, and a small hood supported by brackets.
