Description
Souldern House is a house dating back to the 17th century, with alterations in the 18th and 19th centuries, and further additions and changes around 1920. It is constructed of squared coursed limestone with steeply pitched hipped and gabled slate roofs, stone coped gables and renewed end stacks with brick shafts and rendered bases. The house has a rectangular plan with additions to the rear. It is two storeys high plus an attic, and has a three-window front. A re-sited central entrance now has a glazed door, a wooden surround and a hood. This entrance is flanked by sash windows with glazing bars and stone flat arches. Three tall sash windows with glazing bars on the first floor also have stone flat arches. A moulded stone eaves cornice runs along the top of the building, above which are three flat-roofed dormers. A 19th-century addition to the rear features a canted bay with a hipped roof. At the rear is a re-sited early 18th-century shell hood supported on console brackets. Inside, there is 18th-century painted pine panelling and cornices, along with 19th-century cornices. There are also 17th-century moulded cross beams.
