Description
This is a timber cottage, likely dating to the late 17th or early 18th century, and built in two phases, with a later extension. The walls are of roughly shaped limestone rubble. The roof is steeply pitched and covered with modern tiles, with a stone/brick stack at the ridge. The original two-unit plan was extended to three units. The front elevation has an overall arrangement of four windows. The main part of the cottage, approximately centrally located, has a panelled and glazed front door under a gabled hood. This entrance is flanked by a single-light casement window to the left and a two-light metal casement in a wooden frame to the right. All windows have wooden lintels. The first floor has three two-light metal casement windows, each with a hood lintel. Most windows have leaded crown glass and wrought-iron casement fasteners and springs. A smaller block to the left has a single window range. A blocked entrance is visible within the left gable, and another on the High Street front, both featuring wooden lintels. The first floor of the left block has a two-light metal casement window, with the same details as those on the right. The interior of the cottage was not inspected. The building is included on the list for its group value.
