Description
Portland House is a house dating from the 17th century, with alterations made in the mid-18th century and early 19th century. It is constructed of coursed limestone rubble, featuring ashlar quoins and dressings, with a brick upper gable. The slate roof has raised stone coped gables and two rendered gable stacks. The building is two storeys high with a three-bay front, a moulded cornice, and a parapet. The central entrance features a 19th-century panel door with a traceried overlight, surrounded by a wooden pilastered frame and panelled reveals, topped with a Gothick cornice on console brackets. Flanking the door are single glazing bar sash windows, while the first floor has two similar windows. All windows are adorned with ashlar lintels that have raised keystones. Additionally, there are semi-circular headed inset boot scrapers on either side of the door.
