Description
Pickworth House, located at No. 33 on Caythorpe High Street, is a Grade II* listed house built in 1684, with alterations from the 18th and 19th centuries. The building is constructed of ashlar stone and features stone coped gables, a pantiled roof, and two ridge stacks. It has a balanced H plan front with a rear projecting wing on the left side. The house is two stories high with garrets and has a five-bay front, where the middle three bays are recessed.
Above the ground floor windows, there is a moulded string course. The central entrance features a panelled door with a moulded eared surround, above which is a square plaque inscribed with the date 1684 and the initials P over WE. To the left of the door is a three-light window with combined mullions, showcasing both ovolo and cavetto moulding on different faces, followed by a single early 18th-century glazing bar sash window. To the right of the door are two three-light mullioned windows.
On the first floor, there are four three-light mullioned windows, and additional single three-light mullioned windows are located in the flanking gables. All the mullioned windows have moulded surrounds and cornices. Inside, the house features a roll moulded ceiling beam and a fireplace with an oak lintel. The parlour contains fine 18th-century raised and fielded panelling topped with a wooden cyma moulded cornice, as well as a notable absidal cupboard with a staved deal hemispherical top, although the fireplace in this room has been removed.
