Description

No 3 Church Lane is a former school, now a house, built in 1838. The building is constructed of coursed limestone rubble with ashlar dressings and features a slate roof with stone-coped Dutch gables and a brick ridge stack. It has a T-plan layout and is a single storey with garrets, displaying a plinth and a first-floor band. The street-facing side has four bays with rusticated quoins. The off-centre recessed door is flanked by pilasters that support a basket arch with a moulded cornice above. To the left of the door are two plain mullioned two-light windows with iron casements, while to the right, at a higher level, is a single similar two-light window. All windows are topped with moulded cornices. On the eastern gable end, there is another similar door above which is a stone inscribed with "GHP 1838."
