Description
The Red Lion Public House is a building that originally served as a house, dating back to 1650, with additions and alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. It is constructed from coursed and banded limestone and ironstone rubble, featuring ashlar quoins and three brick ridge stacks on moulded stone bases, topped with a pantiled roof. The structure is a single range with a two-bay, two-storey wing added in the 19th century to the left and a lean-to extension from the 20th century on the right.
The gable end of the original 17th-century block has two storeys with garrets. The ground floor is blank, while the first floor features a two-light glazing bar casement window set in a moulded stone surround, above which is a band that is interrupted by an inscribed stone plaque with the initials TC and the date 1650. In the gable, there is a small two-light Yorkshire sash window within a moulded 17th-century surround. The left wing includes an off-centre 19th-century panelled door, accompanied by a glazing bar sash window with a segmental brick head to its left. Above this door, there is a 19th-century margin light sash window that reaches to the eaves.
