Description

Holly Cottage, comprising numbers 37 and 43 High Street, Caythorpe, is a house originally consisting of two separate dwellings, dating to the 17th and early 18th centuries, with alterations made in the 19th century. The building is constructed from coursed limestone and ironstone rubble. The left-hand block is banded and has a stone-coped gable, while the right-hand block features close eaves and brick gable stacks. Both sections are roofed with pantiles. The right-hand block has two bays and two storeys, distinguished by a heavily moulded eaves cornice. The left-hand block is a single storey with garrets. Windows on the right-hand side are 19th-century plain sashes with timber lintels. On the left-hand side, the ground floor has a 19th-century three-light casement with a segmental brick head, and the first floor has a two-light 19th-century casement with a timber lintel. Traces of a blocked 17th-century window remain in the gable. The principal timbers in the left-hand part of the building are large, featuring complex stops with run-out stops.
