Description
Frieston Hall is a house dating from the 17th century, with early 19th century additions and a front. It is constructed of coursed limestone rubble with ashlar dressings, and features a stucco main block, raised stone coped gables with ball finials at the base, and brick gable stacks, all topped by a slate roof. The main block has a five-bay, two-storey front with a moulded parapet and a stone-coped pediment that is surmounted by a ball finial and contains a blank pointed-headed window opening.
The central 19th century panelled door is set under a four-centred arch within a coursed limestone rubble porch that has ashlar quoins and is topped by a moulded parapet. Flanking the door are two pairs of glazing bar sash windows with shaped stucco lintels. The three first-floor windows are pointed sashes featuring elegant glazing bars in the Gothic style. To the right, there is a two-bay, two-storey wing with glazing bar sashes, and further right, a small open bay wing with flanking pilasters, a Gothick traceried pointed window on the ground floor, and an empty pointed-headed niche above.
Inside, there is a possibly repositioned late 17th century doorcase with a moulded eared surround and keystone, as well as a room featuring early 18th century raised and fielded panelling, which is reputedly from another location. This same room also contains a 17th century round-backed fireplace with a hacked back moulded four-centred arch.
