Description

North Lodge, gates, and gate piers are located at the northwest corner of Easton Park, facing the A1 road. This gate lodge, along with its gates and piers, was built around 1840. It is constructed from squared coursed limestone rubble and features a slate roof with overhanging eaves and decorative scalloped bargeboard. The building has a single ridge ashlar stack with three octagonal shafts and moulded tops.

The lodge is designed in a T-plan and is a single storey with a garret. The front has two bays, including a three-light mullioned window and a canted bay window with a parapet, along with a similar two-light window. All windows are fitted with leaded lozenge lights. On the side front, there is another canted bay window and a square open porch with a parapet and octagonal angle pillars that covers a four-centred arched planked door. Inside, there is a contemporary fireplace with a fluted surround and roundels at the corners.

To the right of the lodge, there is a pair of cast iron gates with a pierced mid rail and plain verticals, flanked by large square ashlar gate piers with moulded cornices that support orbs. On either side of the main gates are pedestrian gates with square cast iron panelled piers. Beyond these are cast iron screens that stand on low ashlar walls, terminating with shorter square piers that match those at the main gate. This structure was built as a gate lodge for the Cholmeley family at Easton Park.
