Description
No. 3 School Close is an estate cottage built around 1840-1845 by William Burn. It is constructed from squared coursed limestone rubble with ashlar quoins and dressings. The cottage features slate roofs with lead dressings, stone coped gables, and kneelers, along with two tall octagonal ashlar stacks. The building has a T-plan and is a single storey with attics.
The entrance front consists of three bays, with the left pair slightly advanced and separately gabled. The central ashlar porch has stone coped gables with kneelers and three shouldered archways, one on each open side, leading to a plank and muntin door. To the left, there is a narrow single light window, and to the right, a two-light window. Above the porch, in the gable, is a two-light window with a chamfered mullion. The garden front features a canted ashlar bay window with a hipped stone roof, which includes two-light and single-light windows.
