Description

These are five almshouses located on the south side of Village Street in Stoke Rochford. They were originally built around 1677 by Edmund Turnor and were remodeled around 1851, possibly by William Burn for Sir Christopher Turnor, with some minor alterations in the 20th century. The almshouses are constructed from squared limestone rubble and feature slate roofs with raised stone coped gables topped with ball finials, as well as two square ridge stacks with cornices.

The building is single storey with a nine-bay front and attics, flanked by taller advanced wings. The central doorway is chamfered and has an inscription on the lintel that was repaired in 1851. Above this doorway, the coped gable contains a sunk panel with a shield and an inscription noting the original foundation date of 1677. This central section is flanked by two single-light windows and one two-light window.

The projecting end wings have canted bays with hipped stone roofs, and the gables feature two-light windows. All windows are designed with ovolo moulded mullions and transoms. The sides of the wings include chamfered doorways. Additionally, there are 20th-century single-storey extensions on either side of the almshouses.
