Description

The base of the north gate bastion, attached to number 50 Bailgate (which is not included in this listing), dates from the 3rd century. It features a dressed stone facing on a random rubble core and has a semicircular plan with a chamfered plinth. This structure was part of the north gate of the Roman Colonia wall. Number 50 Bailgate, built in 1938, is not considered of special interest. The site is also designated as a Scheduled Ancient Monument, County No.4.
