Description

The Roman wall between Eastgate and the north wing of the Eastgate Hotel is a section of the defensive wall from the Roman settlement of Colonia. It dates from the 2nd century, with thickening and raising occurring in the 4th century. The wall has been restored in the mid-20th century and features herringbone coursed and random rubble construction. It is approximately 30 meters long and 4 meters high. This structure is part of the Colonia defensive wall, which was reinforced in the 4th century. It is also designated as a Scheduled Ancient Monument, County No. 35.
