Description

No. 17 Eastgate is a late 17th and 18th century house. It is constructed of coursed squared stone, partly rendered, with a hipped plain tile roof and single side wall, ridge, and gable stacks. The building is two storeys high and has three bays, arranged in an L-shaped plan. A central wooden doorcase featuring pilasters and an entablature frames a six-panel door with two glazed panels. Either side of the door are sash windows with glazing bars and rendered lintels. A doorway to the adjacent No. 18 features a Gothic glazing bar fanlight. Above the ground-floor windows, a round-headed window sits centrally, flanked by single sash windows with glazing bars and wooden lintels. A segment-headed dormer with a sash window of glazing bars is positioned centrally above the round-headed window. The rendered west side of the building has two similar dormers. The interior of the property was not inspected.
