Description

Priory Gate is a gateway built in 1816 using materials from a 14th-century gatehouse that was located approximately 50 meters to the north. It is constructed from dressed stone and designed in the Medieval Revival style. The gateway features plain chamfered arches with hoodmoulds and mask stops on the south side, along with a crenellated parapet and slab coping. The central roadway is flanked by single pedestrian arches, and there are buttresses at the west end. Additionally, lamp brackets are positioned over each arch on the south side. Priory Gate is also a Scheduled Ancient Monument, designated as County No. 114.
