Description
Number 6 and the attached wall are a house and boundary wall built in 1822 by John Ward for the Reverend William Carter. The building is finished in stucco with a plain tile roof and features two brick gable stacks. It has an L-plan layout and stands two storeys high with three bays. The front façade includes a reeded wooden doorcase with a pediment, a fielded panelled door, and a fanlight to the right. To the right of this door is a beaded panelled door, and to the left are two glazing bar sash windows. Above, there are three taller sash windows with cornices, and above those, three smaller sash windows.
Inside, the rear features a dogleg staircase with a narrow well, a ramped and scrolled hardwood handrail, and two stick balusters per tread. The ground floor entrance hall and adjoining drawing room have moulded cornices and enriched ceiling borders. The drawing room includes a central foliage boss and a marble fireplace with panelled pilasters and paterae. The first-floor study and adjoining ante room also have moulded cornices, enriched ceiling borders, foliage bosses, and marble fireplaces with panelled pilasters and paterae. Each room features a reeded doorcase with paterae, and there is a double doorway linking the rooms with a similar surround, enriched frieze, and cornice. The doors are mainly six-panel with beading.
The exterior includes a stone coped dwarf stucco wall with two panelled piers.
