Description

The Cathedral School and attached former stable, located on Eastgate in Lincoln, was built in 1847 by architect William Burn. This building, originally serving as a Deanery, is designed in the Elizabethan Revival style and constructed from coursed squared stone and ashlar, featuring gabled and hipped slate roofs along with four gabled and single ridge stacks.

Architectural details include a chamfered plinth, a first-floor band, coved eaves, and coped gables. The windows are primarily cross casements with stone mullions and transoms. The front elevation features a gabled wing on the right with a four-centred arched doorcase that has a hoodmould and crest. To the left is a two-storey wing. Between these wings is a prominent bay window topped with a conical lead roof and a three-light window, flanked by smaller windows on either side, with a door to the left. Above this, there are two through-eaves dormers with cross casements, and additional windows in both wings. Higher up, there are two smaller flat-roofed dormers.

On the west side, there is another four-centred arched doorway with a crest and hoodmould, flanked by a three-light window on the left and a canted bay window on the right. Above this doorway, there are four through-eaves gabled dormers.

To the east of the building, there is a courtyard enclosed by coped stone walls and square gatepiers. At the east end of the property, the former stable has been converted into a classroom and features three round-headed openings with 20th-century glazing. The interior has not been inspected.
