Description
Three houses, located at 38, 39, and 40 Bailgate, Lincoln, were constructed in the late 17th century, late 18th century, and mid-19th century. The buildings incorporate remnants of a 13th-century structure that previously occupied the site. The exterior is primarily of coursed rubble and brick, with stone dressings, and features a 20th-century plain tile roof, a single ridge, and single gable brick stacks. A brick band runs along the first floor. Weatherstripped plank doors are present. The houses are two storeys and six bays wide. The left-hand side includes a 19th-century three-light shop window with a cornice, and to its left are two pointed arched doorways, one of which is 13th-century. Next to these doorways is a cross-mullioned casement. To the right of the shop front are two 13th-century doorways, followed by another similar casement. Above the shopfront and doorways are six 19th-century casements, with the four leftmost windows having moulded brick heads. The interior was not inspected.
