Description

The Roman wall now located in the lobby of the Public Library in Horncastle is a section of the south curtilage wall from a Roman settlement, dating from the late 3rd century to the mid-4th century. It is constructed from Spilsby sandstone rubble and measures approximately 18 metres in length and between 1.2 to 1.5 metres in height. The Public Library, which was built around 1968, does not have any special architectural interest. This wall is scheduled as an Ancient Monument, numbered 44.
