Description
The Roman wall located at the rear of the Manor House in Horncastle is part of the north-west corner of a Roman military camp. It dates from the late 3rd century to the mid 4th century and is constructed from Spilsby sandstone ashlar with some rubble. The wall stands approximately 1.5 metres high and extends about 3 metres in length, running from east to west and curving towards the south at the western end. The original ashlar facing remains intact, while the rubble core is exposed on the western side. To the south of the wall, there is a red brick well from the 18th century. The site is scheduled as an Ancient Monument, number 44.
