Description

The barn at Welton Field Farm dates from the 17th century. It features a red brick plinth and is clad in timber weatherboarding, with a pantile roof. The structure is single storey and has central planked double doors. Inside, there are four bays of pegged and sawn softwood framing off the sole plate, supported by straight braces. The roof is constructed with braced tie beams and collars, using through purlins and lacking principal rafters, with raking braces to prevent racking. At the rear, there is a contemporary waggon hovel and beast houses, which are also timber framed and include a low brick dividing wall, all under a continuous pent roof with the barn.
