Description

The Church of St. Martin is a parish church with a medieval base that was rebuilt in the late 18th century and altered in 1891. The church features coursed squared chalk at the base of the walls, red brick in English bond, ashlar dressings, and a concrete tiled roof. It consists of a western tower, nave, chancel, and vestry.

The tower is three stages high, with the upper stages offset and topped by an offset plain parapet and corner lead pinnacles. It has semi-circular headed louvred belfry lights. The west doorway features a semi-circular head with an ashlar keystone and a pair of planked and slatted outer doors. Inside, there are six panelled inner doors with semi-circular headed panels above in a similar arch. The middle stage of the tower includes a semi-circular headed glazing bar fixed light.

The side walls of the nave have brick corbelled eaves and contain two 19th-century windows with two lights and cinquefoil headed tracery. The vestry has two leaded lights with pointed heads. The east window, also from the 19th century, consists of three lights with Gothic tracery, and above it is a circular light in the gable.

Inside the church, there is a 15th-century octagonal crenellated font and a late 18th-century font.
