Description

Boothby Hall is a small country house built around 1700, with later extensions around 1770 and 1830, and alterations made in the late 19th century. The house is constructed of buff orange brick with red brick dressings and features an early 19th-century hipped slate roof with deeply overhanging eaves supported by moulded baluster brackets.

The front of the house is two stories high and has five bays, with a plinth and a band at the first floor level. The central entrance consists of a half-glazed panelled door with shutters, which is sheltered by a late 19th-century ashlar porch featuring a semi-circular archway, pairs of pilasters, a moulded cornice, and a latticed balustrade. On the left side of the entrance are two tall glazing bar sash windows, while the right side has a later 19th-century rectangular two-bay flat-roofed extension that contains two margin light sashes. The first floor has five glazing bar sash windows, all with red brick cambered heads. To the right of the main structure is a late 19th-century conservatory.

The left front of the house features a central glazing bar sash window flanked by single canted two-storey bay windows. Inside, the hall has plaster panelled walls and a carved chair rail, along with an eared and moulded fire surround and an eared and shoulder decorated panel above the fireplace. The doors have pedimented tops and eared surrounds, complemented by Gothick friezes. The stair hall is adorned with a dentillated cornice and a panelled plaster ceiling. The staircase features a wreathed handrail, a canted cut string, and two moulded balusters per tread.
