Description
The Church of St. Benedict is a parish church built in 1838 by E. D. Rainey of Spilsby. It is constructed of yellow/orange brick in Flemish bond with ashlar dressings and features a slate roof. The church includes a western tower, nave, chancel, and vestry. The two-stage tower has a plinth, string bands, a plain parapet, and angle pinnacles. The west door is planked and set within a chamfered pointed ashlar surround that has a moulded hood. The belfry stage contains narrow pointed louvred lights, and there is a rectangular slit window on the north side. The side walls of the nave have a plinth and three single pointed lights with hood moulds. The chancel features a blocked priest's door and a triple lancet window at the east end. An added vestry is located on the south side of the tower.
Inside, the church retains a single chamfered tower doorway, with a blank pointed niche above it. The chancel arch is moulded and pointed in ashlar, dying into the reveals. The interior is decorated with polychromatic tiles, and it contains deal pews, an octagonal open pulpit, fluted Doric pillars, and a moulded cornice. The font is plain and octagonal.
