Description
This is a late 16th and 17th century cottage located on Main Street, Houghton on the Hill. The front is mainly red brick with a rubble stone and brick plinth, though the left gable end has a rubble stone ground floor. The roof is slate, with a brick ridge and rear stacks, and features moulded brick eaves. The windows are a mix of styles: on the first floor, there are three 2-light windows, one a casement and two horizontal sliding sashes. The ground floor has two 3-light and one 2-light leaded-light casements. A rear wing is present, constructed of rubble stone and brick, with doors and iron lattice horizontal sliding sashes. Inside, the cottage retains chamfered beams, two inglenooks with hoods, and a tie beam truss in the rear wing. The date 1767 is incorporated into the left end gable using black bricks.
