Description
No. 5 is a cottage dating from the 18th century, located on the north side of Main Street in Houghton on the Hill. It features colourwashed rendered brick and a Welsh slate roof, which has a brick ridge and stacks at the left end. The building has a plinth and brick dentilled eaves.
The cottage is two storeys high and has four windows: on the upper floor, there is a three-light centre-opening casement window, a two-light window, and two three-light horizontal sliding sash windows. The ground floor has three three-light horizontal sliding sash windows with top lights. To the left of the ground floor, there is a part-glazed door with a flat canopy supported by iron stanchions.
On the left end of the cottage, there is a one-and-a-half storey extension that includes a nine-pane window and a small one-light window. Inside, there is an inglenook with spice cupboards and stop-chamfered beams.
