Description

Sutton Mill is a late 18th-century watermill that has been converted into a house around 1980. It is constructed of red brick with brick dressings and features plain tile roofs, including one brick gable stack and a sawtooth eaves band. The building is L-shaped and has two storeys plus attics.

The street elevation includes two 20th-century diamond-paned windows with segmental heads at ground level on the west side, and another 20th-century window under a timber lintel on the east side, along with a pair of double plank doors under a segmental head. Above these, there are two more 20th-century diamond-paned 2-light windows with segmental heads, and two similar windows on the west side. The western gable also features a single window.

On the south elevation, there is a segment-headed doorcase with a 20th-century plank door to the west and a segment-headed 2-light 20th-century window to the east, with a similar window above. The east facade has a segment-headed doorcase with a plank door to the north and a flat-headed 2-light 20th-century window to the south. Above this is another similar 2-light window under the original segment head, and to the north, above the doorcase, is a similar doorcase with a flat-headed 2-light diamond-paned window above.

Inside, much of the original timberwork remains, although there is no machinery. The housing for the wheel still exists on the west face of the mill, but the wheel itself has been removed.
